Found in "Michael Moore and His Descendants", self-published by Orville E. Foreman. Erastus Moore was born in Belmont County, Ohio, Oct. 25, 1833, and died Feb. 18, 1922 in the 89th year of his age. He grew to manhood in the old home where he was born. in young manhood he engaged in carpenter work and later bought what was known as the George Dawson farm, on which he spent most of his long and useful life. On August 1, 1858, he was united in marriage to Nancy E. Mechem., to this union were born seven children; four sons and three daughters. The wife,one son and two daughters having preceded him in death. In his boyhood he united with the Christian church, in which he always took an active part. He was one of the Charter members of the Belmont Ridge Christian Church, organized in 1856. In 1873 he was ordained to the Eldership of this church, in which office he remained faithful to the end of his life. Besides a large host of friends he leaves three sons; Rev. Melanchthon Moore of Liberty, Mo., Rev. Luther Moore, of Goodland, Kansas; Edison L. Moore, of Beallsville, Ohio; and one daughter, Mrs. James J. Phillips, in whose home he spent the closing years of his life. He also leaves two half-brothers, Hiram Mantle, of Painesville, Ohio, and A. C. Mantle of Centerville. The funeral services were held at the Belmont Ridge Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon of the last week, conducted by Rev. F. A. Shape, of the Martins Ferry Christian Church.
