Description	:	Son of George Haviland Birch and Phebe Fairley Mitchell Birch. In 1856 or 1857, Erastus Birch moved his family from northern Indiana to Yellow Springs, OH at the urging of Horace Mann. Erastus and Sarah Birch were admirers of Mann, first President and Father of Antioch College as well as of American Public Education. Erastus became a trustee of the college during the time of Horace Mann's presidency. His son, Hugh Taylor Birch erected a historical marker in memory of his father on Bryan Park Road, Yellow Springs, OH. The inscription follows: In memory of Erastus Mitchell Birch...
