Cobb, aged 18 yrs. and 5 months. It is but justice to the subject of this notice to say that he was an interesting and affectionate young man; a dutiful son, an affectionate brother, a true and faithful friend to all his associates. But alas ! for wise, and to us, unseen purposes, he was cut down in the bloom and morning of life, leaving kind and tender parents, brothers and a sister to mourn his departure. His funeral was attended on Sunday the 8th inst., by Rev. Mr. Pratt, who appropriately addressed a large and respectable audience. The sub- ject of this notice was a member of the "Bay State Light Infantry," in this place. He was the first who has fallen by the inimitable hand of death, since its organization. In respect to his memory the company in uniform, assembled at the house of mourning, to pay the last tribute of respect to his remains, and forming in procession together with his relatives and friends proceeded to the burying ground, where their deceased friend was deposited to sleep in the dust till the resurrection morn. May this bereavement be sanctified to all for their present and eternal good. The following composed by the subscriber, may be appropriate on this occasion. Mourn not for him who sleeps in death Altho' your darling son, - For God who gave him life and breath Has only called him home. In yonder blissful realms above, Long with his Savior dear He sings around a throne of love; Sires, can you wish him here ? Ah no - me thinks I hear you say, My son has gone to rest; Has left his tenement of clay And dwells among the blest. Kind parents, than he reconciled, Nor murmur, nor complain, Altho' you've lost a darling child, 'Tis his eternal gain. Carver May 15, 1853 J.M.
