In 1883, the SS Alaska was the first ship ever to cross the Atlantic in less than seven days. In 1887 the Bergners settled in Atkinson, Holt Co., Nebraska where their daughters, Edith Caroline (1891), Hester "Esther" Elizabeth (1893), and Ruth Viola (1898) were born. In July 1900 they appear on the US Census at T95 R66 W5, House 494, Household 489 in Gregory County, South Dakota. In 1901 they appear on the Canada Prairie Spring Census in Lamerton, Red Deer District, Alberta on the west side of Buffalo Lake. In 1906 they are on the Canada Prairie Census with three youngest children, their two older daughters have married and left home - Freda in 1902 to George Albert Johnson (1883-1908) and Bertha in 1905 to George Michael Neis (1880-1950). On the 1911 Canada Census Ingberg is living with her two youngest daughters. Her middle daughter, Edith married Charles "Charlie" Reay (Ray) on 30 Mar 1908. Her husband, Eric Peter had taken his own life, on a farm in Bashaw earlier in the year in 1911. I often wonder if it were for health reasons as I have seen the devastating and painful effects that rheumatoid arthritis has had on two of his descendants. May they all rest in peace. On the 1911 Canada Census, Ingeborg is living at T41 R20 M4 with her daughters, Esther and Ruth. On the 1916 Canada Prairie Census, Ingeborg, Esther and Ruth are at T41 R21 M4. In 1917 Esther married Emil Olson (1888-1960) and had five children. On the 1921 Canada Census, Ingeburg appears as "Martha" and is living with her daughter Ruth at S18-T41-R21-M4 in Lamerton, Alberta. Their friend Charles Ludwig is S6-T41-R1-M4. On 7 Feb 1924 Ingburg Marta (née Pahlsdotter) Bergner died and was laid to rest with her husband Erik at Mirror Cemetery just north of Mirror Alberta; and just south west of Lamerton. In 1924 Ruth married Glen Humphrey (c1895-1991). Generation one: (01) ERIC PETER BERGNER (1865-1911) Eric had two sisters: a) Katarina Fredrika* Bergner b 1869 in Stode, Sweden, where in 1891 she married Peter Olsson Hedman (1866-1957). Their oldest child Anna Cornelia was born in Sweden in Jun 1892 and the three of them immigrated to America in 1893. They settled in Whitefish, Montana and had nine more children. Their daughter Emma Hedman (1897- c1990s) wrote a 176 page family history "Plow a New Furrow: The Story of Peter and Freda Heman", published by Falcon Press. b) Brita Johanna "Hanna" Bergner who married Mr. Lodell. She lived in Montana and Alberta.
