Eric immigrated to the United States in 1874 from the Friesian Islands, located off the coast of Denmark. He married Maria (Fuchs) and together raised a family of four children: Wilhelm Christian, Peter, Anna and Margaret. Eric was a major contributor to the founding and development of Staplehurst including the establishment of the Bank of Staplehurst, Staplehurst Lumber Yard, Jacobs Electric Co., Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., and the Telephone Co.
