Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with Father Art Faesser celebrating. She grew up in Buffalo County and graduated from Odessa High School in 1950. Joan was united in marriage to Robert Meier on November 25, 1950 in Elm Creek. The couple made their home near Elm Creek where she helped on the family farm. She was a past member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elm Creek where she was active with Altar Society and DCCW. Later she joined St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. She was a member of the Tuesday morning coffee club and the Red Hat Society. Joan volunteered for the Elm Creek food pantry, and the Census Bureau. She served on the Elm Creek Election Board, Elm Creek School Board and as a Nebraska Tourism Guide. Joan enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, and spending time with her family. Left to cherish her memory are children, Patricia Smith of Kearney, NE, Martin (Julie) Meier of Overton, NE, Paula (Tom) Montgomery of Omaha, NE, Pamela (Dick) Harrington of Loup City, NE, Morgan (Geri) Meier of Elm Creek, NE, Mark (Amy) Meier of Elm Creek, NE, Andrea (Brad) Quadhamer of Hildreth, NE; daughters-in-law, Jenny Meier of Elm Creek, NE, and Calli Meier of Elm Creek, NE; 26 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren, with her 40th great grandchild coming later this year; siblings, Donna (Cleve) Kennedy of Mullen, NE, Sandra Behn of Hickman, NE, Audrey Taylor of Kearney, NE, Peggy (Dennis) Triplett of Sumner, NE; sister-in-law, Susan King of Kearney; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons, Michael Meier and David Meier; son-in-law, Terry Smith; brothers, Richard King, and Randy King; sister, Ilene King; brother-in-law, Gordon Taylor.
