Description	:	Erma K. Burkey, of Milford, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at Sunrise Country Manor at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 7 days. She was born November 12, 1913, on a farm near Milford, Nebraska to Pete & Lena (Summers) Rediger, the 4th of 5 children. Burkey, of Milford, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at Sunrise Country Manor at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 7 days. She was born November 12, 1913, on a farm near Milford, Nebraska to Pete & Lena (Summers) Rediger, the 4th of 5 children. As a young girl, Erma attended Milford Public Schools and later became a 1931 graduate of Milford High School. On April 14, 1934, Erma was united in marriage to Elmer Burkey and to this union a daughter, Jane and a son, Don were born. Together they spent their married life on the Burkey homestead located southwest of Milford on the West Fork Blue River, retiring in 1961. Erma was a charter member of the Bellwood Mennonite Church of Milford. She was a faithful and giving member and taught Sunday School for many years. Erma was an active member of the church women's group and was an avid quilter. She quilted for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed other needlework and made many afghans and sweaters for her children and grandchildren. Erma was a devout Christian and a very strong opinionated women who took all life's trials in stride. She was a caring, loving and understanding mother and grandmother, calling members of her family daily when they were ill. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and her family remembers her fried chicken, angel food cake and especially her Amish fried potatoes. She enjoyed spending time with friends, going out for Sunday lunches after church, and bible study. Erma lived at the Garden Square in Crete before moving to the Sunrise Country Manor in 2002. While at the Garden Square, Erma and Jane enjoyed many special moments together. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jane Boden and husband Ron McGinnis, both of Lincoln, her son, Don Burkey, Dorchester, four grandchildren, Kelle Lambert and her husband Sam, Lincoln, Betsy Lobjoit and her husband Laurent of Lake Elsinore, CA, Jeff Boden, Denver, CO, Alicia Coulson, Lincoln, three great-grandchildren, Devon Coulson, Hannah and Jacob Lambert, all of Lincoln, a sister, Lucille Melson, Lincoln, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, Pete & Lena Rediger, husband, Elmer who shared the same day of passing on October 19, 1976 and interment on October 22, two brothers, Harry & Clinton Rediger, sister, Frieda Stauffer and a daughter-in-law, Linda Burkey. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2005, at Bellwood Mennonite Church, Milford, with Rev. Orlan Koehn officiating. Interment was in Blue Mound Cemetery, Milford. Pallbearers were Jerry, John and Marlin Burkey, Roy Wolfer, Bob Stutzman and Roger Hostetler. Memorials have been established to the church. Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, has been entrusted with arrangements.
