TORRANCE Erma Steffy, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Steffy, was born on Feb. 26, 1878, on a farm near Victor and departed from this life March 31, 1930, at Oakdale, Iowa, at the age of 52 years, 1 month and 5 days. On April 16, 1896, she was united in marriage to John S. Torrance. To this union four children were born - Mrs. M. B. Lundberg of St. Louis, MO., Melvin of Ocala, FL., Vance of Des Moines, and Carma at home. Most of her life was spent near Victor and in Brooklyn, until ten years ago, when the family moved to Iowa City. She had been failing health for the past 18 months, being taken to the hospital at Oakdale. She united with the Methodist church in childhood, and has always been a faithful member. She was a devoted wife and mother. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her husband and children, her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Steffy; four sisters, Mrs. T. R. Hammell of Conroy, Mrs. J. C. Laird of Des Moines, Mrs. S. U. Mussetter and Miss Elva Steffy of Victor; and three brothers, Samuel F., of Montezuma, George of Cedar Rapids and Harry of Manchester. The father preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at two o'clock this afternoon at the Victor Methodist church, conductetd by the pastor, Rev. O. E. McBride. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
