Description	:	Erna Barnes Kautz, 91, of Moline, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Rosewood in Moline. Private family services were held Thursday, June 1, with burial in Blue Grass Cemetery. The Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, assisted the family with final arrangements. Erna Minna Friedrichsen was born on Oct. 11, 1914, in Kiel, Germany, the daughter of Johann Wilhelm and Margretha Bender Friedrichsen. She came to the United States in 1926 and attended Davenport schools. She was united in marriage to Robert Albert Barnes on Sept. 25, 1933, in Keokuk, Iowa. Erna Minna Friedrichsen was born on Oct. 11, 1914, in Kiel, Germany, the daughter of Johann Wilhelm and Margretha Bender Friedrichsen. She came to the United States in 1926 and attended Davenport schools. She was united in marriage to Robert Albert Barnes on Sept. 25, 1933, in Keokuk, Iowa. She later married Christian "Chris" Scheller Kautz Feb. 3, 1951. He preceded her in death Oct. 6, 1998. She worked for 50 years as a costumer, purchasing the Tri-City Costume Co. in Rock Island in 1944. She was the former owner/operator of Barnes Costume Company, Davenport, until 1966. Her firm costumed the first three Quad City Music Guild productions as well as the St. Katharine May Fete, the last of the minstrel shows for St. Alphonsus Church, and musical productions for Father Green of St. Ambrose College and Don Tornquist of Augustana College and other colleges mascot costuming was also provided for various businesses and organizations. She did further costuming while residing in Youngstown, Ohio, and Atlanta, Ga., and worked with Shirley Davis. She was elected the first woman president of National Costume Association in 1975. She also loved needlepoint and belonged to the Embroidery Guild, Atlanta chapter. Those left to honor her memory include her son, Jesse (Sandra S. Wiese) Barnes, Silvis; four grandchildren, Holly Jessica Sue Barnes, Columbus, Ohio, Alex Nicholas Paul Barnes, Anaheim, Calif., Barbara N. Bulens, Park View, and Robert Jesse Barnes, Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Johnny Friedrichsen.
