Description	:	Erna M. Sperry, age 92, of Blue Rapids, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Blue Valley Nursing Home in Blue Rapids. Erna was born September 13, 1917 in rural Barnes, Kansas to Ludwig and Otellia Bonikowski Samsel. She lived most of her childhood in the Cottage Hill community south of Waterville. Read More	Erna M. Sperry, age 92, of Blue Rapids, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Blue Valley Nursing Home in Blue Rapids. Erna was born September 13, 1917 in rural Barnes, Kansas to Ludwig and Otellia Bonikowski Samsel. She lived most of her childhood in the Cottage Hill community south of Waterville. She married Glen Sperry on August 20, 1941 at Waterville. They spent a year farming in Iowa and then returned to Marshall County to continue a farming life. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Waterville and had worked with her sister-in-law doing wallpapering and painting along with being a farm wife. Of the many things she enjoyed, being on a tractor doing field work gave her the greatest satisfaction. Survivors include two of her three children; Roland Sperry and wife Nona of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Phyllis Runnebaum of Marysville, seven grandchildren; Jeffrey Warders of Navarre, Angela Campe of Libertyville, Illinois, Kevin Warders of Marysville, Ty Sperry of Flagstaff, Arizona, Stacy Leonard of Blue Rapids, Stephanie Williams of Florissant, Missouri and Tucker Leonard of Chalua, Missouri and eleven great-grandchildren; Amber, Madison and Gage Warders, Shannon and Ryan Campe, Keith, Corey and Kegan Warders, Ashley Sperry, Kayla Leonard and Turelle Williams, Jr. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Erna was preceded in death by her husband Glen in 1976, a daughter, Glenda Kay Leonard in 1999, seven brothers; Henry, Willie, Cort, Oscar, Edgar, Raymond and Roland Samsel, three sisters; Alice Noll, Esther Wessen and Beverly Lofquist. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at St, Mark's Lutheran Church in Waterville with Rev. Jeremie Vore officiating. Congregational hymns were "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." Lois Andersen was the organist. Casket bearers were Tucker Leonard, Turelle Williams, Lyle Brooks, Randy Wilcox, Jon Gunn and Joe Warders. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville.
