Description	:	PVT US ARMY~ WORLD WAR I VETERAN Ernie Jett was born in Salix, IA, and attended school there. He moved to Anthon, Iowa, in 1912, where he was a rural mail carrier. In 1915, he became a partner in the Purvis-Jett Garage in Anthon. Ernie served in the Army during World War I. On March 5, 1919, Ernie married Hazel Smith, in Sioux City, IA, and the couple farmed in the Anthon area for 27 years. In 1915, he became a partner in the Purvis-Jett Garage in Anthon. Ernie served in the Army during World War I. On March 5, 1919, Ernie married Hazel Smith, in Sioux City, IA, and the couple farmed in the Anthon area for 27 years. Ernie served at assessor for Wolf Creek Township for many years,and in 1934, he began working for the Woodbury County Soil Conservation Service. The couple moved to Anthon in 1946, and he retired in 1961. Ernie was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees. He also served on the building committee for the original church in 1925. Ernie was a member of the town council of Anthon for many years, a member of the U. S. Civil Service Retirement System, American Legion, Farm Bureau, and was secretary of the Little Sioux Agriculture Committee. Ernie and Hazel enjoyed traveling together. Ernie died at the nursing home in Mapleton, and he was buried with military graveside rights, conducted by McNiff Post 389, American Legion in Anthon.
