Description	:	Son of Austin A. & Kate Summey Pressley; husband of Callie Gambrell Pressley. Ernest was killed in an automobile accident about 10 miles south of Gastonia, NC, along with Allen Gantt, also of Liberty, both back-seat passengers in a vehicle driven by Jack Sanders (William Cephas Sanders, brother-in-law of Allen Gantt) of Clover, SC. Luther Morgan was a passenger in the front seat; both Sanders and Morgan were only slightly injured when the vehicle plunged off the roadway and overturned several times. Sanders and Morgan were held without bond in the Gaston County jail immediately after the accident. No additional information has been located regarding the accident or arrest. Ernest was employed in textile work and was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Red Cloud Tribe, No. 50 Red Men. Survived by his wife; his father; two sisters, Mrs. Larry Porter of Easley and Miss Edna Pressley of Liberty, and a brother, Junius Pressley of Liberty. (Note - his paternal grandparents, D.Z. & Mary Louise Whitten Pressley, also survived him but were not listed in his obituary). Funeral services: Tuesday, September 25, 1928, Liberty Second Baptist Church (now known as Eastside Baptist Church), conducted by Rev. C.V. Martin and by Rev. R.F. Jones of Cateechee. Gastonia, NC Informant: A.A. Pressley (father) Grave appears to be unmarked at this time. Obituary stated he was laid to rest next to his mother, who died almost exactly eight years earlier of the day of his death. Name has been seen spelled as both Ernest and Earnest. His father, Austin Alexander Pressley, outlived his two wives and all of his children. In addition to attempting to find the date and grave of his first wife Effie (between 1900 and 1904), there is another child listed as an unnamed female Presley in the 1900 Census, born in May 1900, and as a 10 year old male named Francis in the 1910 Census. It is probable this child died prior to the 1920 Census, definitely prior to Ernest’s death in 1928. If anyone has information, please contact me.
