Description	:	Ernest Christian Laupp was born in Tübingen, Württemberg, Germany on the 2nd of December 1870. Second son of his parents Christian Rudolf and Auguste Friderike (Aicheler) Laupp who had four boys Karl Ernest b.1868, Ernest Christian b.1870, Christian Heinrich (Henry) b.1873, August Rudolf b. 1875 and Albert Laupp b.1880. Second son of his parents Christian Rudolf and Auguste Friderike (Aicheler) Laupp who had four boys Karl Ernest b.1868, Ernest Christian b.1870, Christian Heinrich (Henry) b.1873, August Rudolf b. 1875 and Albert Laupp b.1880. Ernest C. departed from Bremen, Germany to United States and arrived in New York, New York on the S.S. Fulda a four mast iron screw steamer at the age of 14 on the 7th of October 1885. He resided at 22 Meade Street in Orange, Essex, New Jersey working as a baker prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. Ernest C. enlisted for a five year term of service in the U.S. Army at 238 Market Street Newark, New Jersey on the 24th day of May 1890 by Charles Cooper, Captain of the 10th Cavalry Regiment. He was described as having light brown eyes and hair, a fair complexion, standing at 5 feet 4 3/4 inches tall and weighing 118 pounds. Private Laupp was stationed at Fort Wingate, New Mexico with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment and served in both G and L troops where soldiers often settled disagreements between Navajo and "citizens" in New Mexico from 1890-1895. Pvt. Laupp was discharged from the Army at the expiration of his term of service which was characterized as "Excellent" on the 23rd of May 1895 at Fort Wingate, New Mexico. Shortly after his discharge, Ernest reenlisted in San Francisco, California for a three year term of service with the U.S. Army 4th Infantry, B. Company on June 4th 1895 his complexion now described as ruddy from his time spent in New Mexico with the 2nd Cavalry. Pvt. Ernest Laupp was discharged upon the expiration of his term of service at Tampa, Florida which was characterized as "very good" on the 3rd of June 1898. Between his discharge from the Army in June of 1898 and 1900 Ernest travelled to Lincoln County, Washington where he purchased a farm on Bald Ridge the country north of Mondovi, Washington. Ernest C. Laupp 33 of Mondovi married Louise Schwartz 18 of Reardan, in Davenport, Washington on the 10th of October 1903 in the presence of Peter Schwartz and Fred Wagner. Ernest and Louise (Schwartz) Laupp had five children the first being an infant son on the 10th of June 1905 who died shortly after birth; Katherine Margaret b. 1909; Ernest Jr. b. 1912; Louise Augusta b. 1918 and Gertrude Alice b. 1921. Ernest kept in contact with the Laupp family in Tübingen writing letters and even returning to Germany to visit in November 1911 after the death of his father Christian Ruldolf Laupp. The Laupp family experienced tragedy upon the death of wife and mother Louise in 1924. Ernest's brother Christian Heinrich Laupp known by the family as Uncle Henry moved to the Laupp farm on Bald Ridge in 1925 to help the family. Ernest Laupp Sr. expanded his farm in March 1927 upon purchase of the adjoining 160 acre Moyer estate in a cash deal increasing his total acreage to 320 and where the presently named Laupp Lake is located. On August 25th of 1936 Ernest Laupp Sr. reported the theft of 60 sacks of marquis wheat from his field valued at $150 dollars. The young men involved in the wheat heist who later gave themselves up to Lincoln County Sheriff Charles McCaffery admitted to hauling the grain to Spokane and attempting to sell it to the Boyd-Conlee company. Ernest Laupp Sr. passed away at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Spokane, Washington on the 10th of April 1951 following an extended illness. He was a member of the United Spanish War Veterans, General Charles King Camp Post #4 and survived by one son Ernest Jr., Mondovi and three daughters, Ms. Katherine Laupp, Greenbelt, Maryland; Mrs. Louise Johnson, Spokane; Mrs. Gertrude McClure, Mondovi and four grandchildren.
