He was born November 27, 1927 in Burke, South Dakota to Ora C. and Sylvia (Baker) Bahr. Ernest was raised at Stuart, Nebraska and Bassett, Nebraska and then moved to Spalding, Nebraska in 1940 where he farmed with his father. In 1950, he moved to North Platte, Nebraska and worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads and also at a service station. He married Virginia Andersen in 1950 at Wolbach, Nebraska. He moved to Fremont in 1952 and began a 35 year career with George A. Hormel Company, retiring in 1984. While in Fremont he tilled gardens for his friends and neighbors and worked part-time at Williams Texaco Station and Jonas Oil. On February 3, 1963 he married Lucille G. Kana in Lincoln, Nebraska. She died October 25, 1994. He bowled at 30 Bowl and was a member of the Spinning Wheels Square Dance Club and First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his son, James Bahr and wife Dixie of Sheridan, Wyoming; daughter, Connie Bacon and husband, Chuck of Webster, South Dakota; step-daughter, Sandra Leiter of Leesburg, Indiana; brothers, Wayne Bahr and wife, Fran of Vancouver, Washington and Rex Bahr of Portland, Oregon; sisters, Mavis Klassen of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Phyllis Buzzelle and husband, Lenny of San Antonio, Texas, and Ruby Munkel of Midvale, Utah; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille; sons, Daniel and Robert; daughters, Janet and Jeanette, two brothers, Max Bahr and Lyle Bahr; three sisters, Betty Carter, Wanda Teet, and Myrtle Logsch; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry Klassen and Horst Munkel. Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Michael McGregor will officiate. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 10, 2014 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to Gentiva Hospice and Fremont Area Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Moser Memorial Chapel, 2170 N.
