Description	:	Ernest D. "Ernie" Haas, Jr., died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Boone County Health Center, Albion, Nebraska. Ernie was born June 5, 1929 to parents Ernest and Wilhelmina Galitz Haas. Ernie was baptized in August 1929 and confirmed in June 1943 at Zion Lutheran Church, Albion, Nebraska. "Ernie" Haas, Jr., died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Boone County Health Center, Albion, Nebraska. Ernie was born June 5, 1929 to parents Ernest and Wilhelmina Galitz Haas. Ernie was baptized in August 1929 and confirmed in June 1943 at Zion Lutheran Church, Albion, Nebraska. At the age of two, Ernie nearly drowned as his brother Luther discovered him face-down in the stock water tank on their farm. He attended school at Sunnyside School District #35 south of Albion, Nebraska through the 8th grade and graduated from Albion (NE.) High School in 1946. An active, lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Albion, Nebraska. Ernie served as a member of the Church Council, a Luther League Sponsor, and a regular communion usher. He also served on the District 35 School Board several years. Ernie entered the United States Army in 1952 and served 22 months in the infantry, taking part in conflicts on the Korean battle field. He was honorably discharged a Corporal in 1953. On August 23, 1953 during his furlough, he was united in marriage to Joy Fusselman at Trinity Lutheran Church, Newman Grove, Nebraska. They lived at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado and at Fort Riley, Kansas and following his discharge they began farming east of Albion, Nebraska. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August of 2003. Ernie farmed for 20 years, was a Lutheran Brotherhood representative and later operated his own fuel delivery service for Farmer's Co-op, Felco and Cenex Land O Lakes until 1996 when he semi-retired. He then thoroughly enjoyed helping with custom harvesting and assisting with the delivery of fertilizer and supplies for Country Partners until 2011. He was an avid pool shark, enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting and his pride and joy was family, grandchildren and friends. Ernie is survived by: wife of 59 years, Joy Haas; sons, Daniel Haas (Mindy) of Carrollton Texas and Bradley Haas (Valerie) of Parker Colorado; daughter, Janet (Bruce) Sparling of Centennial Colorado; grandchildren: Madeline, Julia, Natalie, and Anthony Haas; Walker and Hunter Sparling and step-grandson Kevin Meise. Ernie was preceded in death by: parents, brothers, Luther Haas and his wife, Ruby, Marvin Haas and his wife, Mildred, Harvey Haas and wife, Catherine and niece, Linda Haas. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, Nebraska with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #162 and V.F.W. Post #736.
