Description	:	Ernest Dean Gower, 84, of El Dorado died July 20, 2011 in Wichita. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church. A visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado Ernie was born March 29, 1927 in Wichita, the son of George Huston and Lottie (Biddle) Gower, Sr. He graduated with the Class of 1945 from El Dorado High School. Read More	Ernest Dean Gower, 84, of El Dorado died July 20, 2011 in Wichita. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church. A visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado Ernie was born March 29, 1927 in Wichita, the son of George Huston and Lottie (Biddle) Gower, Sr. He graduated with the Class of 1945 from El Dorado High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Maxine Bell in El Dorado. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2007. For more than 35 years he worked for Skelly Refinery. He was a very active member of the First Christian church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was also a member of Victory Sunday School Class and a sponsor of the youth group. While his daughters were growing up he coached them in softball. For many years he refereed high school basketball. He kept the BCCC timeclock for more than 30 years. He loved camping, square dancing, golf committees, helped with bingo and chaired the golf committee, and served as past commander. Hobbies included camping, square dancing and helping drive the bus for Susan B. Allen Memorial hospital. He also loved following the Butler Grizzlies to bowl games. Surviving family include daughters Nancy (J.C.) McClure of Andover and Diane (Jim) Poe of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandsons Heath (Amanda) Poe, Justin (Shelly) Poe, T.J. McClure, Ross McClure; great grandson Hunter Poe; sister-in-law Jean (Don) Brickley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother George Gower, sister Clara Blackmore two nieces and a nephew.
