Ernest was born on July 7, 1913, the son of Louis and Antonia Hess Dudeck in Belle Plaine, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Belle Plaine Class of 1931. Ernest was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He went to work for the United States Postal Service in 1947 as a mail clerk, on the railroad for 27 years. He married Muriel Fowler on October 18, 1964. He retired from the Cedar Rapids post office in 1974. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 39 of Iowa for over 60 years. Ernest loved classical music and opera. He enjoyed playing his violin and playing golf. He also wrote poetry. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Duane; one grandson, Jamie; and his brother Edward. Ernest is survived by his wife, Muriel; children, Elvin Irons of Des Moines and Kathryn Hallquist-Goodwin and husband Dennis of Rio Rancho; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Pat Irons of Cedar Rapids; and one nephew. Memorial service at Acantilado Vista, Rio Rancho, interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine, Iowa. Arrangements by Daniels Funeral Services, Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
