Description	:	Mr. Ernest “Ernie” Eagle Honbarger, age 98 of Salisbury, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Genesis Eldercare in Salisbury after a few weeks of declining health. Ernie was born on June 3, 1921 in Rowan County to the late George Wayne Honbarger and Edith Elmira Eagle Honbarger. His wife of 38 years, Johnsie Kennerly Honbarger along with his brothers, Hoke and Raymond Honbarger and sisters, Ruby Corriher, Priscilla Bradshaw and Edith Hamblett all preceded him in death. Read More	Mr. Ernest “Ernie” Eagle Honbarger, age 98 of Salisbury, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Genesis Eldercare in Salisbury after a few weeks of declining health. Ernie was born on June 3, 1921 in Rowan County to the late George Wayne Honbarger and Edith Elmira Eagle Honbarger. His wife of 38 years, Johnsie Kennerly Honbarger along with his brothers, Hoke and Raymond Honbarger and sisters, Ruby Corriher, Priscilla Bradshaw and Edith Hamblett all preceded him in death. Ernie attended and graduated from Rowan County schools. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He served in World War II where part of his time was served on the USS Texas. He received several medals while serving in the African Middle Eastern area, American Area Philippine Liberation and the Asiatic Pacific Area where he received two stars. He then received an honorable discharge once his tour was completed. Ernie was a true workhorse. He spent his career working for the ABC store in China Grove and served on the ABC Board from 1949-1980. He loved to garden and was always ready to work whether on the farm or at the family sawmill. He had an endless amount of energy and a tremendous work ethic. While at Genesis, he loved to play Bingo with the other residents. Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, G.W. (Bob) Honbarger, numerous nieces and nephews along with numerous great nieces and nephews. Born Edith Hope Honbarger on March 21, 1926 in China Grove, N.C., she graduated from China Grove High School in 1943. In her yearbook, all her friends wished her luck in achieving her dream of traveling far from China Grove. She began nursing training in Statesville in 1944 and later worked in Charlotte, N.C. where she met and married Russell Hamblett. Together they lived and raised a family of three daughters in North Carolina, Hawaii, Alaska, Tennessee and Virginia as the U.S. Coast Guard moved the family around the country. She delighted in the outdoors, whether walking dogs, collecting seashells and four-leaf clovers, watching backyard wildlife, or gardening. Other interests included ceramics, sewing, quilting, and puzzles. The joys of her life were her daughters, Melinda, Kathy, and Karen, and her family in North Carolina. After far flung adventures, Edith put down roots in Yorktown, Virginia for many years before moving yet again, this time to be near daughters in Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents George William and Edith Elmira Honbarger; her sisters Ruby Corriher and Priscilla Bradshaw; and her brothers Hoke and Raymond Honbarger. She is survived by her three daughters, her four grandchildren, her husband, her brothers, Bob and Ernest Honbarger, and many loving nieces and nephews. Her final wish to return to China Grove will be honored and a memorial service and interment will be at Westlawn Cemetery in China Grove at a later date. * * * * He is mentioned in his sisters obituary: Mrs. Bradshaw’ CHINA GROVE - Mrs. Priscilla Honbarger Bradshaw. 41, of Midland, Pa., a native of Rowan County, died at 2:30 p. rn. Monday at a hospital in Beaver Falls, Pa. She had been in declining health seven years. Funeral services will he conducted at 2:30 p. rn. Thursday in Midland Methodist Church. Burial will also be in Midland. Mrs Bradshaw was born June 27. 1923 in Rowan County, daughter of the late George W. Honbarger and Mrs. Edith Eagle Honbarger. She w-as educated in the China Grove schools and was a member of the First Methodist Church in China Grove. Her husband, George Bradshaw, who survives, formerly played professional baseball in Rowan Counupty .There were married in the early 1940’s and later moved to Midland. Pa. Survivors in addition to her husband, include three sons, Tommy Bradshaw, Dee Bradshaw and Jay Bradshaw, all of the home; three daughters. Penny Bradshaw, Sue Bradshaw and Pat Bradshaw, also of the home; three brothers, Raymond Honbarger of Kannapolis, G. W. Honbarger of Route 5, Salisbury and Ernie Honbarger of Route 7.
