Read More	*Published October 29, 1952 - The Courier Times, New Castle, IN Fire Takes One Life, Inflict Heavy Losses Cambridge Fire Chief Killed In Blaze At Motel A minor fire at The Dells, a motel four miles east of Cambridge City on U.S. 40, caused the death of Ernest Huddleston, chief of the Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years, Tuesday afternoon, near Cambridge City. Wayne County Coroner, H. D. Hill, said Huddleston died instantly when he cut a telephone wire which had come into contact with a 13,600 volt power line. Mr. Huddleston who was 65 years old, was a lifelong resident of Cambridge City and a member of the fire department for 35 years. (His birth year was approximated.) He was employed at the Bertsch and Company Foundry. Other members of the fire department said Huddleston cut the telephone line with an ax and then picked up the end still in contact with the "hot" line. Survivors include the wife, Pansy Bell; one daughter, Mrs. Martha Suttles of Cambridge City; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Grooms of New Paris, OH; and one brother, Rev. L. A. Huddleston of Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 p.m., in the Cambridge City Methodist Church. Rev. A. P. Beale and Rev. H. H. Stansbury will officiate and burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery at Dublin. Members of the fire department will be pallbearers and firemen from neighboring fire departments will be honorary pallbearers. Friends may call at the Fisher Mortuary from 7 p.m. today until 11 a.m. Friday. The body will lie at the church from 12 noon until the services.
