Description	:	Ernest E. Gray Ernest Emmett Gray, a 94-year-old resident of Siam, IA, passed away June 20, 2001. He was the brother of Nellie Shaw of Trenton. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001 at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, IA. Loren Daly officiated. The organist was Karolyn Hughes. Vocalistes were Pat Gant and Reba Richie. The pallbearers were Hobert Gant, John Gray, Roger Gant, Russell Shaw, Lowell Clayton and Jim Manuel. The honorary pallbearers were John Crawford, George Crawford, Eldon Stewart, Lewis Carmichael, Eldon Miller and Dick Burton. Burial was in the Siam Cemetery. Mr. Gray was born near Elmo on Oct. 22, 1906, the son of George Walter and Rosa Zella Stuart Gray. He attended grade school at Unity School, east of Hopkins, and Stokes Mound District 8 School in Carroll County. He was united in marriage in King City on Aug. 10, 1933 to Ethel Blanche Gant. He farmed in the Siam area and was a buyer, clerk and cashier at the Clarinda Auction Company for 43 years. Mr. Gray was a member of the New Market School Board 1963-1969 and was president of the board from 1967-1968. He was treasure of Buchanan Township School District Page County. He was township assessor of Amity, Buchanan, East River and harlan townships. He also served as clerk of Buchanan Township election board for several years and as township A.S.C. committee member. Mr. Gray was a member of the Masonic Plumb Lodge of Siam since Feb. 8, 1930 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since March of 1938. He was a member of the Christian Church of Siam and was secretary/treasurer of the church for 45 years. Mr. Gray is survived by two daughters, Janice Settles and her husband, J.D., of Blue Eye and Karen Runyan of Emerson, IA; one son, Steven Gray and his wife, Lisa, of Inianola, IA; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Nellie Shaw of Trenton; one brother, Charles Gray and his wife, Faye, of Clearmont; one half-brother, Dale Walter Gray and his wife, Inez, of Clarinda, IA; one half-sister, Dorothy Arthur of Clarinda; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, on Nov. 13, 1990; his parents; two grandsons, Andrew Settles and Logan Gray; two brothers, James Gray and John Gray; and four sisters, Ida Reynolds, Mary Manuel, Golda Clayton and Lillie Peterson.
