Description	:	Ernest E. Black, 81 years, of Defiance, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 in his residence with his family at his side. Ernest was born the 13th of 15 children, on December 25, 1931 in Newport, Michigan. He was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Major) Black of Hungary. He was raised by his mother to know and pass on the importance of being a kind, caring and loving person. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served for three years. Ernest was born the 13th of 15 children, on December 25, 1931 in Newport, Michigan. He was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Major) Black of Hungary. He was raised by his mother to know and pass on the importance of being a kind, caring and loving person. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served for three years. He married Dorothy E. Radabaugh on October 23, 1971 in Defiance, and she preceded him in death on May 22, 2004. Ernest was a maintenance man at General Motors Foundry in Defiance where he worked for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Defiance Eagles Aerie #372, AMVETS Chapter #1991, Defiance and the Defiance VFW Post #3360 and well as the DAV. Ernie was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. His love for family has instilled many traditions, memories and values of a real family. After his retirement, Ernie and his wife Dort were able to enjoy gardening, traveling, camping and sharing in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Together they taught all of us the real meaning of love by their constant example. They enjoyed being at the grandchildren’s school events, whether academic or athletic. They also created many memories of fishing in Oscoda and this legacy will live for decades to come. Ernie has given to and touched so many throughout his life. With his belief in God, he is in heaven enjoying all his family that has gone before him. Surviving are his six children, Michael (Alice) Black of Grand Rapids, Ohio, Sandra (David) Kroeckel of Defiance, William (Cathy) Barker of Defiance, Diane Ussery of Defiance, Randy (Sherri) Black of Defiance and Faye (Rob) Bergman of Ney; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rudolph (Helen) Black of Ney. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy; seven sisters, Margaret Lawrence, Anna Wielichowski, Mary Vajen, Irene Kiessling, Rose Reichert, Judy McBride and Stella Seiler; six brothers, Louie Horvith, Andy Black, Joe Black, John Black, Steve Black and Mike Black. There will be no visitation. Memorial services for both Ernest E. and Dorothy E. Black will be held Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Defiance Church of the Brethren, 319 Washington Avenue, Defiance with Pastor Gene Yenser officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home & Crematory, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to direct memorial contributions to Community Health Professionals Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Williams and Fulton Counties, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
