Read More	Ernest (Gene) Rowe June 5, 1932 - July 21, 2003 Williamsburg, Iowa Ernest Eugene (Gene) Rowe was born on June 5, 1932 near Lancaster, MO, a son of Ramon & Winnifred Cooksey Rowe. He attended country school and graduated from Downing High School in Downing, MO in 1949. Ernest moved to Williamsburg in 1950 was united in marriage to Florine M. Iburg on December 5, 1952 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1956 and they lived a short time in Tacoma, WA. They have since made their home in Williamsburg. Ernest worked for Ralph D. Jones for a number of years before going to the service; after the service he worked at Amana Refrigeration, served as chief of police for the city of Williamsburg for a short time and worked 28 years for the Iowa Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797. He died following a lengthy illness at the home of his son in Williamsburg on Monday, July 21, 2003. He lived 71 years. Ernest is survived by his wife Florine Rowe of Williamsburg; 3 sons: Louis of Williamsburg, Douglas and wife Diane of Conroy and David and his significant other Christina Thomas of Williamsburg; 9grandchldren: Julie Maxfield and husband Chad, Aaron Rowe, Justin Rowe, Azariah Rowe, Jacob Rowe, Jared Rowe, Alisha Rowe, Sarah Thomas and Cody Thomas; 3 great grandchildren: Taylor Rowe, Wesley & Rylea Maxfield; a brother Charles William (Bill) Rowe of Ottumwa and a sister Shirley Lemon of Altoona, IA. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jeral Rowe and a sister Sandra Rowe. Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg, there will be a VFW Service at 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. Memorials are for Lutheran Interparish School or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
