Description	:	Ernest Eugene "Ernie" "Gene" Moore, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2014, in his residence in Champaign County, Saint Paris, Ohio. Born on March 18, 1938, in Lake Providence, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Elijah Haywood Moore and Dorothy Almira Wynn Moore Sykes. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Barrett Moore and Lou Ella Tucker. His maternal grandparents were Ernest Glenn Wynn and Mary Lodusky Kincaid. Read More	Ernest Eugene "Ernie" "Gene" Moore, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2014, in his residence in Champaign County, Saint Paris, Ohio. Born on March 18, 1938, in Lake Providence, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Elijah Haywood Moore and Dorothy Almira Wynn Moore Sykes. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Barrett Moore and Lou Ella Tucker. His maternal grandparents were Ernest Glenn Wynn and Mary Lodusky Kincaid. He married Denise Kay Mahan on May 15, 1975, and moved to Jackson County, Mississippi, on November 1, 1975, from Cocoa Beach, Brevard County, Florida. "Gene," as called by his family, began his formal education in Tallulah, Louisiana, and moved to many places in the Midwest and western parts of the United States. In the fall of 1954 the family moved to Bradford, Darke County, Ohio, and later to Piqua, Miami County, Ohio. Ernie joined the Navy on November 20, 1955, and was trained in boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois. He was first stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, aboard the New Jersey (BB62). When the New Jersey was decommissioned in 1957 his rank was Boatswain, third class. He was next stationed on the U.S.S. Forrestal (CVA59), where he became a Radarman, third class. He was discharged from the Navy on March 18, 1959 He re-enlisted in May 1959 and was sent to the U.S.S. Antietam (CVS36) in Pensacola, Florida, where he was ranked as a Radarman, second class. When this ship was decommissioned, about the winter of 1962, he was sent to the U.S.S. Tattnall (DDG19) in Charleston, South Carolina, and continued as Radarman., second class. He was next sent to San Diego, California, where he was an instructor in Fleet Air Control and Survival Training. After this tour, he returned to the U.S.S. Forrestal and in May 1966 was sent with the ship to Vietnam. He was discharged from the Navy in June of 1967. Ernie joined the Florida National Guard, 705 Military Police, in February 1975 and the Mississippi National Guard 1355 Transportation Company in March of 1976. He retired on April 1, 1986, as Staff Sergeant, E6. he had completed 21 years, 7 months, 9 days service with 11 years, 9 months, 18 days active service. In civilian life Ernie retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, where he was employed as an electrician and worked in Machine Repair as an electrical mechanic. While he was in the military, Ernie married Carolyn Gipson of Meridian, Mississippi. They were divorced in 1973. From this marriage three children were born: Tonya Benita (Tony Odell) Clayton, of Knightdale, NC; Kashlyn Dennece (Franklin) Covington of Vernon, CT; and Develin Eugene Moore of Williston, ND. Ernie was a grandfather to several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Dorothy Mae Ella (Clyde Michael) McClung of Florida; John M. (Nancy Jean) Moore of Piqua; Donald Wayne (Doris Ann) Moore of Piqua; Randolph (Lynette) Moore of Florida; Bobby Ray Moore of Piqua; Janie Marie Moore of Piqua; and Rickie Allen Moore of Ohio. He is also survived by his half siblings Horace Edward "Sonny" (Betty Sue) Sykes and Glenn Eugene "Buddy" (Joyce H.) Sykes of Louisiana and many nieces and nephews. In 1981 Ernie accepted the sacrifice of Jesus for the remission of his sins. Ernie was an active member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Saint Paris, Ohio.
