Ernest Frank Stochl, the youngest son of Hynek and Anna (Kunc) Stochl, was born April 27, 1889 at Wahoo, Ne. When he was three years of age the Stochl family moved from Wahoo to Creighton. He attended the Creighton Public Schools. From the time of his early youth he was a member of the various Creighton City Bands, local orchestras and instrumental groups, including the Creighton Concert Band, which in 1907 was honored by being named the "Nebraska State Band". In later years he was director of the Creighton band. In 1927 Mr. Stochl was hired as director to organize and instruct the first orchestra at Creighton High School. On June 7, 1917 Ernest Stochl enlisted in the United States Army for military service during WWI and was a member of the Band Company, 7th Engineers, Fifth Division. After the Armistice was signed, he was chosen for membership in the select Army of Occupation Band that remained in Europe to represent the United States upon the occasion of the meeting of President Woodrow Wilson and the King of Belgium. He was honorably discharged on August 4, 1919 and returned to Creighton. Mr. Stochl was a charter member of VFW Post No. 1151. On December 14, 1920 he married Ethel Rufina Saunders. They had one daughter, Dorothy Ann. Much of the Stochl family's married life was spent in Creighton, where Mr. Stochl owned and operated the Creighton Bottling Works, which had been founded by his father and brother in 1892. During WWII the Stochls lived in Bremerton, Wash., where he was employed in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. After the end of the war, they lived in Omaha. Ernest Stochl was preceded in death by his wife on October 1, 1970 and before that by his parents, sisters and brother. In 1973 he returned to Creighton, where he lived until March of 1978. At that time he went to Omaha to make his home with his daughter and family. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Emil Miller; two grandsons, Richard D. Miller and Robert L.
