Description	:	Ernest G McFerren age 80 of rural Montezuma died Thursday at Grinnell General Hospital. Military graveside rites were conducted by members of Blakley-Stevens Legion Post #169 of Montezuma with burial in the Masonic IOOF Cemetery, Montezuma, Iowa. Ernest George McFerren was the son of Ralph Erwin and Margaret Belle Henry McFerren. He was born on the family farm north of Montezuma. He was a 1927 graduate of Montezuma High School. Ernest George McFerren was the son of Ralph Erwin and Margaret Belle Henry McFerren. He was born on the family farm north of Montezuma. He was a 1927 graduate of Montezuma High School. He attended Iowa State College for two years before working for the Iowa Highway Commission. He later returned to Iowa State and graduated in 1941 with a degree in civil engineering. He worked with the Corps of Engineers in the Panama Canal Zone before the war. During WWII he served as a chief petty officer with the US Navy. After the death of his mother he returned to Montezuma to farm and take care of his father. He also worked for the ASC office. He was a member of the American Legion, serving as service officer for several years. Also a member of the Iowa Engineering Society.
