Although he had been slightly ill for nearly two years, his death came suddenly, he having been up and around the day before. Mr. Strove was a long-time resident of this county. He was born just 74 years ago in Germany, and 52 years ago came to America, settling in Jackson county. A few years later he came to Clinton county, and has resided here continuously ever since. Surviving him are seven children, as follows: John of Lyons, Will and Paul of Hauntown, Ed of Almont, Ferdinand of Miles, Mrs. John Frahm and Mrs. Martha Myers of Miles. The funeral arrangements are not definitely arranged, but it is thought that interment will take place on Friday, the seventy-fourth birthday of the deceased. The Clinton Daily Herald April 26, 1900 The remains of the late E.H. Struve, father of John Struve of this city, will be interred at the Andover cemetery Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Struve have gone to attend the funeral. Thursday April 26, 1900 Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Meyeres, at Almont, occurred the death of Ernest H. Struve, one of our pioneer German settlers. While he had been gradually failing since his wife's death several months ago, his death was unexpected, as he had been out riding the Sunday previous and the end came as a shock to his children. Born in Holstein, Germany, Mr. Struve would have been seventy-four years of age had he lived until tomorrow. He came to America in 1848, settling first in Scott county. Later, about 1852, he moved to Jackson county and for the past thirty-one years and a half had been a resident of Clinton county. He was a miller by profession, although he had also followed farming. Mr. Struve was well known in Clinton county and held the universal esteem and respect of all who knew him, for he was always a good citizen of his adopted country and a man of strictest integrity and uprightness. He leaves five sons, Paul and William, of Almont, John, the well-known Lyons miller; Ferdinand, of Miles, and Edward, of Almont, and two daughters, mrs. Amelia Frahm, of Miles, and Mrs. Martha Meyers, of Almont, with whom he had made his home. The funeral will take place from the Meyers residence at Almont at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Friday).
