He received his early education in the Cedar county schools. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Clarence Lutheran church. He was married Sept 29, 1914, to Hope Clark, at Clarence. Couple farmed in Jones county for 32 years and then lived in Wyoming, until three years ago when they moved to their present home in Anamosa. Survivors Listed Survivors include his wife; four children, Ernest Goldsmith, Jr., Anamosa; Bonita, Mrs. Al Kaufman, Elmhurst, Ill.; Lloyd Goldsmith, Davenport; and Glenn Goldsmith, Scotch Grove. others include three sisters, Mrs. Amanda Eilers, Stanwood; Mrs. Clara Mackey, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Clair Long, Kinross; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother
