| Description | : | When Ernie was almost 23 years old he was conscripted by Canada to fight in WWI. He joined 1st Depot Battalion, Western Ontario Regiment. Private Ernest Gignac #3136050 was a sapper in WWI. He went to England aboard RMS Mauretania from Halifax to Witley, UK and arrived there on 15 Aug 1918. He was trained at Bramshott Camp and transferred to the 4th reserve battalion. He arrived back in Halifax, Canada aboard the RMS Pannonia and was discharged on 4 Jul 1919. |
