Description	:	Some stories were almost unbelievable. Such was the story of Earnest Kimbrell, son of Fielding and Roxanna Horton Kimbrell. Rebekah Reed found the accompanying news articles and realized that the "Kimball" should be "Kimbrell" and that I would probably recognize the Cantrell connection. Ernest Kimbrell was a naïve young man from the beautiful foothills of South Carolina who was plucked in his prime and sent to war ravaged France. Imagine the horrors he saw in the country foreign to him. Imagine his parents sick with worry and grief over their boy fighting on foreign soil for a foreign cause. And their worry was justified: he was badly wounded. When he returned to South Carolina after the war, it was no wonder that he was out of sorts and felt restless. He went to Kansas. Then his parents received word that he had died a horrific death, falling off a freight train. His father and uncle left to identify the body. Imagine the father's relief when he was shown a photograph of someone other than his son! Ernest Kimbrell returned to Spartanburg after the unfortunate reports of his death and lived until 1950. After his death, his sister, Eliza, closest in age to Ernest, applied for a Headstone for US Military Veterans. On the application, Mountain View was recorded as the site of burial.
