Ernie was born April 30, 1917, in Roundup, Mont., to George Riley Hogan and Ruby Ellen King Hogan. He grew up in Bozeman and Billings, Mont., where he graduated from high school. Ernie was born April 30, 1917, in Roundup, Mont., to George Riley Hogan and Ruby Ellen King Hogan. He grew up in Bozeman and Billings, Mont., where he graduated from high school. He earned a bachelor's degree at Montana State University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Ernie married Velda Leone Harrison on Feb. 22, 1986, in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada, LDS Temple. They made their home in Lewistown, Mont., where he had worked as a soil scientist for the Soil Conservation Service. Following a stroke that left him paralyzed on his right side, they moved to Idaho Falls to be close to the one living son. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed gardening and carpentry. Survivors include his wife, Velda Hogan of Idaho Falls; stepchildren, Evelyn (Lawrence) Pool of Deer Lodge, Mont., Linda (Herb) Lay of Thompson Falls, Mont., Sylvia McDuffie of Carrollton, Ga., Leo (Cindy) Eaton of Ammon; sisters, Hazel Moore of Roundup, Mont., and Madge Dismore of Bozeman, Mont.; 24 step-grandchildren; and 45 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Verna Knesal and Georgia Sykes; a stepson, Howard Eaton; and a stepdaughter, June Saari. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at the Idaho Falls LDS Woodruff 1st Ward, 1660 12th St., with Bishop LaMar Densley officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Central Montana Memorial Gardens in Lewistown, Mont., under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
