Ernest Lloyd Chatham, son of Grover and Willavee (Saltz) Chatham, was born July 16, 1927, Meadow Grove, Nebraska. He attended District 87 in Madison County and District 65. Ernest served in the United States Army for two years. He was united in marriage to Janice J. Wenk on October 1, 1954, at Norfolk, Nebraska. They were blessed with seven children: Linda, Diane, Leon, Doris, Lamae, Bradley, and Brian. Ernest lived in Norfolk where he held numerous jobs. He farmed, worked at the State Hospital for 15 years, was employed at John Hespe Company for 17 years, at Nucor for 18 years, and at JC Penney for 10 years before he retired. Ernest was a member of Westridge United Methodist Church, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed playing cards, telling jokes, and laughing. Ernest liked to spend time in his backyard, gardening, dancing, and tinkering in his garage. He was a good dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather and loved spending time with them. Ernest is survived by his children, Linda (Doug) Siegert, Leon (Kathy) Chatham, Lamae Koenig, Bradley Chatham all of Norfolk, Nebraska, Diane (Robert) Gnirk of Hoskins, Nebraska, Doris (Richard) Werner of Savannah, Missouri, and Brian Chatham of Omaha, Nebraska; son-in-law, Keith Koenig of Meadow Grove, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, Michael (Jamie) Werner, Matthew (Heather) Gnirk, Amy (Heath) Schnoor, Kevin Werner, Jon (Amy) Siegert, Adam (Morgan) Werner, Alan (Jill) Koenig, Stephanie and Emily Koenig; 15 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, Jade (Marcus) Ferguson, Ian (Jaz) Kai, Jasmine Kai, and Kia Kai; two step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Donna Eckert of Norfolk and Lyle Chatham of Panama; brother-in-law, Dale Bullock of Norfolk; and his beloved dog, Jack. He was preceded in death by his spouse, Janice; his parents, Grover and Willavee; sisters, Ruth, Bertha Jean, Glenda, and Ida Mae; five brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; mother and father-in-law, Ernest and Ella Wenk; three nieces, Brenda, Karla, Carol; and one nephew, Larry; and beloved dog, Shorty.
