[Special to The Time-Dispatch.] LURAY, VA., May 25. - Ernest Williams, aged 21, met a horrible death at the home of Mrs. Noah Sours, four miles east of Luray at a late hour yesterday evening while hauling sand on a [sled] to which a colt was attached. The colt became frightened from some cause when young Williams made an effort to stop it. His clothing became entangled in the traces and singletree and the colt started off at a high speed. Young Williams was dragged almost a mile while thus entangled, the horse crossing three streams of water, passing over a rough mountain road and leaping a rock fence. The young man’s clothing literally were [sic] torn from his body, his skull fractured in several places and his arms and legs broken. When found by two men who had started in pursuit of the fleeting animal, young Williams was dead. A 13-year-old boy, who was with Williams when the colt started, made frantic efforts to stop the animal.
