Description	:	Ernest was the third child, second son of John Christian and Rosena (Hartwick) Reichstein. From family histories: Ernest was born in Germany, and immigrated to America with his mother and brothers in 1848 to join their father, who had immigrated 2 years earlier. They lived in New York for 2 years, then moved to Wisconsin in 1850, and to Clayton County, Iowa in 1855. In 1872, the family moved to Southwest Iowa. Like another of his brothers, Ernest was deaf/hard of hearing. In 1870, he married Helena Thiele, also a German immigrant. They had 13 children: William, Herman, Ernest, Andrew, Edwin, Emma, Charles, George, Lewis, Lena, Martha, John and Hazel. As an adult, Ernest lived in Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri. He died in Excelsior Springs, Missouri on September 20, 1913. From the Elliott Graphic (newspaper) Ernest Reichstein... " died of heart trouble. His home was at Campbell, Nebraska, and he had gone to Excelsior Springs on Monday preceding his death, hoping that he might obtain relief from his stomach trouble. The funeral was held from the German Presbyterian church at Campbell and interment was in Osco Cemetery. "Mr. Reichstien was born in the Province of Saxony, Prussia, in 1974, and came to this country when nine years of age, and with his mother and two brothers settled near Oneida, New York. After they moved to Prairie du Chene, Wis., then to Iowa. With his family he came to Montgomery county in the spring of 1889 and lived on a farm in Red Oak township, six miles northwest of Red Oak until 1903 when he moved to Adams count Nebraska, which had since been his home. "He was a very industrious man, and by his efforts had accumulated quite a competence. He was known and respected here by a large number of friends. Surving him are his wife, three daughters an seven sons, to whom sympathy is extended in their bereavement." Reprinted from the Red Oak Express.
