Description	:	Mrs. Marcus Siemsen, nee Ernestine Frehse, was born October 16, 1872 in Kreis Oldenberg in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. She was the second youngest child of Karl and Doris Frehse. Read More	Mrs. Marcus Siemsen, nee Ernestine Frehse, was born October 16, 1872 in Kreis Oldenberg in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. She was the second youngest child of Karl and Doris Frehse. In infancy she was consecrated to the Lord in Holy Baptism and early in life she was taught to walk in the paths of righteousness and to love the sanctuary of God. In the days of beautiful girlhood she knelt before the altar and pledged undying loyalty to her Lord and Master in the rite of Confirmation. In 1891, at the age of 19 she came to America with her brother Gustave and immediately made her home in this vicinity. On the 15th day of May 1892 she was united in holy wedlock to Mr. Marcus Siemsen, this being the first marriage ceremony in St. Paul’s Evangelical Congregation. To this happy union eight children were born. They are Anna, Fred, Freida (Mrs. Alfred Lueck), Martha, Elsie (Mrs. P. Weltge), Marcus, Albert and Henry. Besides the heartbroken husband and children there are two brothers, H.F. Frees and G. Frehse and one sister, Mrs. Lena Severin of Germany, who mourn her departure. Also two sons-in-law, Alfred Lueck and Rev. P. Weltge, two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Fred Siemsen and Mrs. Albert Siemsen, seven grandchildren, nine nephews and seven nieces and many other relatives and friends who are in mourning because of her death. The deceased was a woman respected and loved by all her acquaintances. She was of a quiet and modest disposition, but exemplary in her ways, sincere and conscientious in the discharge of her duties. She was devoted to her family and spared no sacrifice to provide for her children. A loving spirit has left the home and those loved ones, never to return, and there is suffering and sorrow in hearts that are bleeding and torn. One of the beautiful features of her character was her love and devotion to the Church and Kingdom work. She was a life long member in the Church of Jesus Christ and consistently lived up to its tenets. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church and was interested in all its activities and for many years was president of the Ladies Aid Society. For the last nine months Mrs. Siemsen had been ailing and especially during the latter stages of her sickness did she suffer greatly, yet she bore her pains and sufferings with almost superhuman patience and fortitude. She lived as she believed, she died as she believed. She clung to the Rock of Ages and steadfastly looked to the Author and Perfecter of her Faith, sought his forgiveness through Communion with Him and welcomed the hour of departure to the glorious home for which her soul and all our souls are created. God took her on December 22, 1930 at 9 p.m. at the age of 58 years, 2 months and 6 days. Funeral services were held on Christmas Day, December 25th at 2:00 .m. at the home and 2:30 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church. Words of comfort and of hope were brought in song and message by fellow members and her pastor. The words of Scripture were 2 Timothy 4: 7-8 and Matthew 23. The beautiful hymns sung were “Lass Mich Gehen,”“So Schlaff Denn Wohl,” “We are going Down the Valley” and “Have Thine Own Way.” The body was laid to rest in St. Paul’s cemetery there to await the time when it shall rise again in a glorified state. And all of the vast number who had gathered in the final tribute departed with the prayer as given in song “Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee. Let the water and the blood, From thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin and double cure, Cleanse me from its guilt and power.” Published in The Holyrood Gazette December 31, 1930
