Description	:	The Funeral Service for Ernie Achtenberg, age 91 of New Leipzig, will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery north of New Leipzig with Full Military Honors afforded by the Baesler-Achtenberg American Legion Post #211 of New Leipzig. Achtenberg, Ray Achtenberg, Bill Achtenberg, Alvin Achtenberg and sisters; D. Kuntz, A. Johnson, Adeline Linger, Gladys Kirsch, and 5 infant siblings. Schooling: local country school near his family farm. Baptized and confirmed: Trinity Lutheran Church. Military: US Army, 1945, later promoted to Sergeant of the Military Police. Serving in Germany at the end of World War II. Honorably discharged, 1947. Spouse: M. Loock, October 28, 1948, Trinity Lutheran Church. Married 66 years. Children: sons; M. Achtenberg, S. Achtenberg, T. Achtenberg, J. Achtenberg, D. Achtenberg, D. Achtenberg, and daughter; A. Arnold. Surviving him are 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Great-granddaughter Addison Grace Kreklau preceded him in death. Work history: farming with his parents, custodian for New Leipzig School until 1994, operating a custom combining and trucking business, driving school bus, and custodian at Immanuel Lutheran for over 21 years. Memberships: Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Leipzig, serving on the church council, American Legion over 60 years, and Octoberfest Parade Marshall (1995). Hobbies and activities: spending time with is family, watching his sons play basketball, traveling (especially Washington), and caring for their yard (awarded Yard of the Year 2001) Others preceding him in death: mother and father-in-law, August and Katherine Loock, brothers-in-law, Rudy Loock, and Fred (Anna) Loock, Chuck Baker, and Ernie Johnson. Visitation will be on Monday from 1:00 to 5:00pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin. obit available upon request
