Description	:	Ernie was preceded in death by Lois Dyer, his wife of 65 years and by 4 sisters and 1 brother. He is survived by his sister, Roberta Ward of Kentucky. His children, Alta Smith (Snoopy) Centralia, Dick Dyer (Judy) Vancouver, Arnie Dyer (Jean Trygstad) Portland, OR, and Elaine Kaspar (John) of Brier, WA miss him already. Ernie loved his nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Ella Miner was his loving companion and is a dear family friend. Ernie was born in a sod house in Elwood, NE and wrote wonderful stories of his early life on the family dairy farm.... He worked hard to build a happy life for his 4 children. Woodworking was his passion and his family treasures the hand crafted gifts that he made. He was a lifelong Methodist and a member of Vancouver Heights UMC. Vancouver has been Ernie's home and community since 1947. He was an active volunteer and received the Presidents Volunteer Service Award and the Clark County Volunteer of the Year Award. His volunteer organizations included Optimists, Toastmasters, Kiwanis, Marshallaires, and the Adult Day Center to name a few. It was important to Ernie to improve his community with his volunteerism, his church and his family. He would be proud if he inspired a legacy of volunteering in his honor. For those that volunteer with donations, we suggest CDM - Adult Day Center at 2409 Broadway, Vancouver, WA 98663. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 17th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Vancouver Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Denise Neuschwander officiating. No graveside service.
