Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 PM with a scripture service at 6:00 pm Thursday, February 20, at Miller Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, 507 S. Ertis Kenwood Osterberg, son of Levi and Myrtle (Lindell) Osterberg, was born January 2, 1934 in Salem, SD. He grew up in that area and graduated from Salem High in 1952. He then served in the Army during the Korean War. After his military duty, Ertis attended Nettleton Business College. Ertis was united in marriage to Lynn Schneider on June 7, 1958 in Sioux Falls. The couple made their home there where Ertis worked for Egger Steel. He later worked for Kolman-Athey, Tyler Insurance and for 22 years the City of Sioux Falls. He retired in 1996, but continued to work for Central Plains Clinic and Hy-Vee. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, a Cantor for the Church for over 50 years, the American Legion and the VFW, American Water Works Association, and the SD Water & Waste Water Association (serving as president of both). Music was a big part of Ertis’ life; in addition to singing at church, he sang for weddings, funerals, and with his brothers and other requested venues. Ertis also enjoyed going to the lake and spending time with family. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Lynn; his children, Jodi (Monte) Beck, Fargo, ND, Jeff (Kym) Osterberg, Sioux Falls, Lisa (Matt) Christensen, Suisun, CA, Jim (Julie) Osterberg, Waconia, MN; 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; his sisters, Bonadel (Vernon) Anderson, Park Rapids, MN, and Virgean (Darrell) Kirby, Spencer, SD. His parents, Levi and Myrtle; and brothers, Myron, Leland and Harland, preceded him in death. - Miller Funeral Home ———————————————————- His brother Harland’s obituary: Harland L. “Curly” Osterberg, 81, of Salem passed away on November 11, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Salem. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 14 at Salem United Church in Salem. Visitation will begin at 9 am on Tuesday with family present from 6-8 pm at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem. Harland Osterberg was born on December 8, 1930 in Salem, SD to Levi and Myrtle (Lindell) Osterberg. He grew up on a farm north of Salem and lived his entire life in the Salem area. He attended country school and graduated from Salem High School. While in high school he became known as “Curly” and the name stuck with him his entire life. Curly worked for Wulff Inc. for many years doing farm work, custom work, driving semi, and mechanic work. He was also very handy when it came to repairing small engines. He later worked at the Salem golf course and was an active member of the McCook Country Club. He was a member of the Salem Evangelical Covenant Church until its closure and was recently faithfully attending the Salem United Church. He loved music and used his high tenor voice to its fullest in both church choirs and small groups including male quartets which included singing with his three brothers. Curly enjoyed bowling, golfing and his yearly trips to western South Dakota for deer hunting. Many will remember his many trips around Salem in his little red pickup and his sense of humor. Even though Curly had no children of his own he loved being with and watching the kids, whether it be in church or at family functions. His nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews were very special to him. He is survived by one brother, Ertis (Lynn) of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Bonadel (Vernon) Anderson of Akeley, MN and Virjean (Darrell) Kirby of Spencer, SD; sister-in-law, Myra Osterberg of Salem, SD and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two brothers, Myron and Leland, sister-in-law Eva and an infant niece, Agnes. - Kinzley Funeral Home
