SHREVE OAKLAND — Ervin Franklin Shreve , 79, of Oakland, went home to meet his Heavenly Father, Feb. 24, 2016. Born April 15, 1936, in Oakland, Ervin spent his life as a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was an elder, superintendent and trustee in his church and an outstanding member of his community, where he generously shared his time and love with anyone in need. Ervin was born and raised in Oakland. He retired from Buffalo Coal Company in the mid 90's, where he worked as a mechanic. Ervin had an uncanny knack for being able to repair and fix the most challenging mechanical problems both on the job and at home. Ervin built a successful business, Shreve Backhoe and Dozer Service. He was well respected by homeowners, realtors and land developers for providing excellent service. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Ervin was a kind and caring man with a great sense of humor and a heart of gold. He loved making people laugh and his passion was sharing his tremendous faith in God, whom he loved dearly. In addition to his endearing love for God and church, Ervin was equally devoted to his family whom he loved and cherished. Ervin was a devoted husband. One of Ervin 's greatest joys came in the birth of his daughter, Linda Shreve , Morgantown, W.Va. Few fathers would be so wonderful or would love a daughter as much. The special bond the two shared will last forever. Ervin was a proud grandfather and loved bragging about his grandson, Brandon Waters, Morgantown. Ervin was extremely close to his siblings, sisters, Wilma Friend, Helen Ackerman, and Barbara Sweitzer; and brothers, Floyd (wife Nancy) all of Oakland, and Samuel Shreve (wife Cindy), Warren, Ohio. Ervin 's love extended to his two closest friends, Tom Murray and Tracy Boone, whom he thought of as his "adopted" sons. As his illness progressed and his heart became weaker, his love and faith grew stronger, as did his desire to see his Heavenly Father face to face. Wednesday, Ervin rejoiced with the Angels in Heaven as they welcomed him to his new home. He was lovingly greeted by his granddaughter, Brittney Waters, who waited with open arms for the arrival of her "Pappy," whom she also called her "Hero." Ervin 's parents Vera and Ernest, and many loved one were there to welcome his blessed arrival. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A. 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland, on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services celebrating Ervin 's life, will be held at Shady Dell Chapel, Shady Dell Road, on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Donald Uphold and Pastor Ivan Ackerman officiating. Ervin will be laid to rest at Beckman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the church Ervin attended and loved, Shady Dell Chapel, where Ervin 's passion for sharing his testimony and his desire for everyone to join him someday at his majestic home in eternity with Jesus will continue to be told. Ervin 's wife, daughter and grandson wish to express heartfelt appreciation for all the love and support given by family and friends, as well as, sincere gratitude to his many doctors, nurses and medical professionals at Monongalia General Hospital and Veterans Administration in home staff, who provided excellent care. Allowed us the privilege of having this wonderful man in our life longer and for offering hope and encouragement to all of us throughout this time. May all who've had the privilege of knowing Ervin be blessed by his life and celebrate with him as he hears his Heavenly Father say, "Well done my faithful son, welcome home."
