Visitation will also be Saturday at the church prior to the services. Ervin Gollnick was born April 12, 1925, to John and Anna (Zellner) Gollnick on the family farm in Morton Township, Day County. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay. When he was six years old the family moved to a farm in Racine Township near Rush Lake. He attended country school near his home and then farmed with his brothers on the family farm. In February 1945 he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II in Japan right after the atomic bomb was dropped. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to the family farm. He married Virginia Dolney June 23, 1952, at Grenville. After their marriage the couple made their home on the Gollnick family farm where they raised Hereford cattle, pigs and chickens. He retired from active farming in 1995. In November 2001 he entered Aberdeen Living Center where his wife joined him a short time later. He was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster. During his younger years he was an avid baseball player for the Racine Township team. He enjoyed spending free time walking with his wife and fishing at Pickerel Lake. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Brady-Monson Post 129 American Legion of Webster. Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Duane Hemmah of Roslyn; two grandchildren and a brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Helen Gollnick of Webster.
