Klentz, 87, of Grand Island formerly of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Christ Lutheran Church, Norfolk with Reverend Chip Winter, officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644 and Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard. Ervin Norman Klentz was born August 13, 1922 on a farm south of Norfolk, the son of George and Elsie (Kohlhof) Klentz. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church. He attended public and parochial schools. Ervin helped farm at home until August 1943 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until March 1946. Ervin married Dorothy Hassler from Pierce in 1949 and to this union two children were born. Dorothy died in 1955. He worked for Chicago Northwester Rail Road for 12 years. In 1960 he went to work for Madison County Road Dept. where he continued working until he retired in 1987. In 1964 he married Wilhelmine (Billie) Mountjoy. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1644, American Legion Post 16, and was a Big Brother for ten years. Ervin is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Billie Klentz of Grand Island. He is also survived by sons Richard and wife Sherri Klentz of Grand Island and Mike and wife Nancy Mountjoy of Dayton, Nevada; daughters, Bonnel Klentz of Abington, Massachusetts, Yolande Mountjoy of Mission, Kansas and Karen and husband Jerry Peterson of Victoria, Texas. Also left to cherish his memory are nine grandchildren, Seth and wife Megan Klentz of Brookings, South Dakota, Chelsi and husband Brett Davis of Lincoln, Megan and husband Kenny Bennett of Victoria, Texas, Graham and wife Ashley Peterson of Dallas, Texas, Billy and Joey Mountjoy of Dayton, Nevada, Beth Koenig and husband Feras Amr of St. Paul, Minnesota, Katrina Koenig of Mexico and Peter Koenig of Baileyville, Kansas and six great grandchildren, Kanin Klentz, Nathan and Alyssa Bennett, Raegan, Darian and Kaden Koenig, cousins, nieces and nephews. Ervin was a kind and gentle man whose love for his family knew no bounds. He was a blessing in our lives, and we are better people for having known and been loved by him. He was preceded in death by his first wife, three sisters, and three brothers. Memorials are suggested to the Orphan Grain Train.
