Description	:	Erwin “Erv” Renken, 83, of Brunsville, Iowa, passed away early Sunday, April 19, 2015, in Le Mars, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars, with Reverend Dr. Ron Yarnall officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Hereen-McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post #724 will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars. Erwin “Erv” John Renken was born June 23, 1931, on the family farm in Grant Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, to John and Sena (Ludwigs) Renken. Erv was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township, rural Le Mars. He attended country school in Grant Township. Erv served his country during the Korean War from 1952 until 1954 with the United States Army. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to the family farm. Erv was united in marriage to Joan Beitelspacher on August 7, 1959, at Christ Lutheran Church. The couple farmed and raised livestock in Grant Township until retiring in 2000 and moving to Brunsville. During retirement, Erv enjoyed helping family and friends on their farms. Erv was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church; served as Treasurer and on the Cemetery Board for several years. He was a 60-year member of the Hereen-McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post #724 of Brunsville, having served as post commander and on the color guard for many funerals and community events. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends at church activities and community events. For many years, Erv enjoyed the annual “Skoon Skinners” get together in Akron. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends. One of his greatest blessings was being able to attend his grandchildren’s ball games. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joan of Brunsville; daughter, Becki McGlauflin and her husband Mike of Sioux City, IA, and their children Corby, Eric, and Travis; daughter, Vicki Borchers and her husband Barry of Le Mars and their children Jacci, Bryan (fiancée Ally Mahrt and son Parker), Scott, and Tyler; son, Scott Renken and his wife Jill and their children Molly and Mitch; daughter, Jodi Wiese and her husband Tim of Blairsburg, IA, and their children Jay and Emma; a brother, Victor Renken and his wife Lee of Sioux City; 2 sisters, Arlene Peters and her husband Cliff of Le Mars and Verda Marienau and her husband Jim of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Kathy Renken of Brunsville; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his in-laws: Betty Beitelspacher of Brunsville, Laura Mae (Gerald) Nathlich of Woodward, IA, Delores Buryanek of Westfield, IA, Arlene (Larry) Sorensen of Sioux Falls, SD, Janice (Larry) Pritchett of Westfield, Ed (Doris) Beitelspacher of Le Mars, and Wayne (Julie) Beitelspacher of Le Mars. Erv was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sena (Ludwigs) Renken; 2 brothers: Donald Renken and Wilbur (Jerlois) Renken; a sister in infancy, Bernice; 2 brothers-in-law, Jim Buryanek and Don Beitelspacher; and his parents-in-law, Henry and Louise Beitelspacher.
