Description	:	Erwin (Bud) Jass, age 88 of Alden, died on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Erwin "Bud" William Jass was born on May 11, 1925 near Alden, IA. The son of John and Martha (Bahr) Jass. He attended country school thru the 8th grade. On July 7, 1945 Bud was united in marriage to Zona Gail Cook in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church parsonage in Alden, IA. To this union four children were born Thomas, Lyle, Patricia, and Dale. He and Zona farmed north of Alden until Zona passed away. He enjoyed raising ponies and going to pony sales and his dairy cows. He married Marlys (Lehmann) Barz on July 25, 1981 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden, IA and farmed until a few years ago but continued to live on the farm. He was a life time member of St Paul's Lutheran Church and served as trustee for many years there. His greatest accomplishments and enjoyments were his family, farm, faith, and friendships. Bud is survived by his wife Marlys of Alden, IA; sons Thomas (Linda) Jass of Brandon, SD, Lyle (Barb) Jass of Alden, IA, Dale (Jackie) Jass of Alden, IA and daughter Patricia Rishel and friend Paul Wood of Gladbrook, IA; step-children Kevin (Julia) Barz of Hampton, IA, Cyndee Roskens of Ackley, IA, and Janelle (Kevin) McCloskey of Chandler, AZ; one sister-inlaw Deone Knox of Anahauc, TX along with many other step-brothers and sisters thru marriage. Bud is the grandfather of 10 grandchildren Luke Jass, Leah (Rob) May, Maria (Devin) Coughlin, Jacob (Cindy) Jass, Ben (Morgan) Jass, Betsy Jass and friend Brandon Willing, Leigh (Nicki) Jass, Philip (Cassandra) Jass, Thaine (Whitney) Jass, Justin (Andrea) Rishel; 8 step-grandchildren Chelsea (Josh) Petersen, Taryn, Coleton, & Trey Barz, Kelanie & Kolton Claude, Colin & Kylie McCloskey along with 15 great-grandchildren Thatcher & Owen May, Parker, Jerricho & Lincoln Coughlin, Braden Dierickx, Laney Jass, Jag & Tyce Jass, Jadyn & Tate Jass, Alexandra Jass, Tristan Zoffka, Taylor & Laci Rishel, and 2 more soon to be greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Zona, son-in-law Gary Rishel, brother-inlaw Wilton Knox, stepson Kendall Barz, step-grandson Andrew Barz, and step-granddaughter Sara Smuck.
