Read More	Essel "Ted" Theodore Farlow, Jr., 78, of Pittsville, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional in Salisbury. Born in Salisbury, he was the only child of the late Essel Theodore Farlow, Sr. and Doris Jones Farlow. Ted had many and varied occupations in his life. He raised chickens and turkeys in his youth, wrote program books for standardbred races throughout the Mid-Atlantic, and spent several years as a metal worker. He is best known, however, as a master carpenter. He rarely used blueprints, preferring instead sketches made on a legal pad. He was particularly proud about building nearly all of the displays once housed at the Chesapeake Fire Museum. Ted dedicated his life to serving others, and was a member of numerous organizations throughout the years. At various points, he was a member of the Order of DeMolay, the Pittsville Lions Club, the Toastmasters, and the Pittsville Band Boosters. He was a 25-year member of Wicomico Lodge #91, A.F.&A.M., a member of both the York and Scottish Rites. He also served several terms as a Commissioner of the Town of Pittsville. First and foremost, however, he was a firefighter. He joined the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department in 1963 and served for 58 years until the time of his passing. His father and grandfather were both firefighters, as are both of his sons, and he recently had the honor of introducing his granddaughter, Rayne, to the Pittsville Fire Department as the fifth generation to carry on the tradition. Ted held nearly every elected and appointed office that one could hold in the Department, including President and Chief. He spent countless hours at the fire house on calls, in meetings, and at fundraisers. He spent several years as Treasurer of the Wicomico County Firefighter's Association, and served on numerous committees for that Association as well as the Maryland State Firemen's Association. He was a charter member of the Firefighter's Historical Foundation of Delmarva, and was one of the organizers of the Great Salisbury Firemen's Muster. In 2005, Ted was inducted into the Firefighter's Historical Foundation Hall of Fame, and in 2015, was inducted into the Maryland State Firemen's Association Hall of Fame. Ted was an avid sportsman who would barely sleep the week before the first day of rifle deer season. He relished cold, early mornings in the blind, with the geese and ducks talking just before dawn. He also loved the whistle of doves wings over the open field. Ted is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, two sons, and three grandchildren. A Celebration of Ted's Life, to include a Masonic memorial service, will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2021 beginning at 2:00 pm at the Pittsville Fire Department. There will be a visitation beginning at 12 noon. Following the service, there will be a committal with fire department honors at the Pittsville Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Roger Kondrup. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Pittsville Fire Department, P.O. Box 387, Pittsville, MD 21850.
