Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008 at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel with her services being held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel of Leesville. Burial will be held at LaCamp Cemetery, Hicks, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville. Minister officiating will be the Rev. James T. Byrd. She was preceded in death by her son, Milton Lee Spiller; her father, Almon Monk; her mother Alma Monk Blake; her brother Horace Monk; and sisters Nezzie Monk Martin and Lydia Monk Townley. Essie was born in Hicks to Almon and Alma Monk. She was trained at a young age by the nuns as a nurse. She worked many years in Beaumont, Texas in that profession. She had resided in Leesville since 1985 where she was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church.
