Jennings, 95, of Iowa Falls, died on Friday, June 26, 2020, at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Private family services. Estelene was born on April 15, 1925, in Iowa Center, Iowa to Gail and Ethel (Trobaugh) Fry. Estee spent her early years in and around Iowa Center, a small, unincorporated village north of Maxwell. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1942, a year ahead of the love of her life, Lou Jennings. Her family was of modest means, partly caused by the death of her father when she was 12 years old. She tragically witnessed him being struck and killed by lightning while entering the barn during a storm. Throughout her 95 years of life she experienced much loss. Despite this she chose to focus on the good times. Upon graduating high school, she attended AIB in Des Moines. She then found employment during WWII in Dayton, Ohio as a secretary to military brass. She claimed to be completely unqualified for the job. However, in her archives one will find a glowing letter of recommendation, which she received when she ended her employment marking the end of the war. Lou and Estee were married in 1944. She accompanied Lou for the next few years, traveling the Midwest as Lou was playing semi-pro baseball. In 1952, the couple moved to Iowa Falls and rented a small brick home on the corner of Madison and Washington Avenue. With real estate being Lou's chosen profession, they made several moves, however, Estee always considered that house to be her very favorite. A narrative about the home can be found in the "History of Iowa Falls". It was fondly called the "Crazy Chris House" by locals, a name which endeared the property to Estee even more. By 1972, the home on Madison Avenue had fallen into disrepair and was nearing demolition. Lou thought that was a great idea, but Estee instead persuaded Lou to purchase the property. They preceded to stabilize the structure and Estee was able to combine it with her love of auctions and antiques, by opening "This Olde House" with two other ladies. It became a popular antique haunt for many enthusiasts around the state. Saving that home, along with its history, was a most satisfying accomplishment for her. The home continues to lend its nostalgic charm to the Scenic City to this day. Through the years, Estee loved spending time in Okoboji with family, participating with Lou in couples golf tournaments, and hosting numerous pool parties for the grandchildren. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Estee always relished the modest side of life. That put her at constant odds with Lou, who was growth and development minded in everything he did. Estee knew the modest side of life, as well as the wealthier side of life. She didn't care what side you were on, you got the same treatment from her, kindness and a genuine interest in your well being. Estelene is survived by her son Randy (Joan) Jennings of Iowa Falls; daughter-in-law Cindy Jennings of Anguilla; grandchildren Chad (Heesoo) Jennings of Berlin, Germany, Shawn (Wendy) Jennings of Seattle, WA, Jennifer (LeMar) Koethe of Urbandale, Libby (Victor) Moreno of Urbandale, Jack (Sydni) Jennings of Urbandale, Annie (Ryan) Peyton of Des Moines, Molly (Dustin) Menninga of Des Moines, and Becca Bolton of Des Moines; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cecil "Lou" Jennings; her children Rick Jennings, Becky Sproat, and Beth Bolton; and her brothers Corliss, Bob, Dale, and Basil Fry.
