Description	:	MECKLENBURG FORMER TEACHER DIES AT AGE 78 Estelle Williamson Thomasson, 78, a retired teacher in the Mecklenburg County public schools, died yesterday at her home here. She began teaching fourth grade at the former Averette School, a one-room country school near Clarksville, in 1932. In 1936, she transferred to Boydton High School, where she taught fifth grade until 1940. Mrs. Thomasson then taught third and fifth grades at the combined elementary and high school in Clarksville until 1945. She took a hiatus from teaching until 1957 and then returned to her last school, which had been reorganized... Read More	MECKLENBURG FORMER TEACHER DIES AT AGE 78 Estelle Williamson Thomasson, 78, a retired teacher in the Mecklenburg County public schools, died yesterday at her home here. She began teaching fourth grade at the former Averette School, a one-room country school near Clarksville, in 1932. In 1936, she transferred to Boydton High School, where she taught fifth grade until 1940. Mrs. Thomasson then taught third and fifth grades at the combined elementary and high school in Clarksville until 1945. She took a hiatus from teaching until 1957 and then returned to her last school, which had been reorganized under consolidation as Clarksville Elementary School. Mrs. Thomasson taught fifth grade there until she retired in 1976. She was a graduate of Farmville State Teachers College, now Longwood College. Mrs. Thomasson was a member of the Mecklenburg Education Association and Clarksville Baptist Church. She was the widow of W. Floyd Thomasson. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Betty Roberts of Clarksville; five sisters, Mrs. Luby Yancey of Nelson, Mrs. Frances Forrest of Hampton, Mrs. Janie Chandler and Mrs. Hazel Talbott, both of Clarksville, and Mrs. Nellie Gordon of Buffalo Junction. A funeral will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Watkins-Cooper-Lyon Funeral Chapel here. Burial will be in Oakhurst Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Clarksville Fire Department or the Mecklenburg County Rescue Squad. (Richmond Times-Dispatch - Tuesday, November 27, 1990)
