She married Fred Bock in 1926 and had 4 children with him, Virgil, Marlys, Delores and Larry. Fred died in 1960 and she remarried in 1966 to Herbert Wittenburg, who died in 1982. In June 2019, she took part in the annual Readlyn Grump Days Parade, riding through the town on a float. Esther Bock Wittenburg, 112, of Readlyn, Iowa passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Esther Ann Bock Wittenburg was born on September 27, 1908, the daughter of Fred and Louisa (Schmidt) Luebs in Fredericka Township, Old Tripoli. She was baptized on November 15, 1908 and confirmed on April 9, 1922 both at St. Peter's Evangelical Church in Tripoli. She attended Fredericka #4 Township school at Old Tripoli and Tripoli High School. On July 18, 1926, she was united in marriage to Fred Bock Jr. in Tripoli. Esther helped on the farm and also was an aide at the Waverly Hospital. On June 16, 1966, she was united marriage to Herbert Wittenburg in New Ulm, MN. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle, Merry Elders and Readlyn Senior Citizens. Esther enjoyed reading, fishing, playing cards and valued her friendships. She was a devoted and loving person to each of her family members and friends. Survivors are her four children, Virgil Bock of Readlyn, Marlys "Marlee" Ryan of Tripoli, Delores "Dee" (Fritz) Krueger of Henderson, Nevada and Larry (Kathy) Bock of Cedar Rapids; 6 grandchildren, Kristi, Michael, Michelle, Jeffrey, Barton and Cynthia; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great great-granddaughter; 2 step grandchildren, Candace and Craig and several step great and step great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; bother husbands, Fred Bock and Herbert Wittenburg; stepdaughter, Phyllis (Andy) Westendorf; sister, Leota Plagens and son-in-law, Carl Ryan. There will be no formal funeral service, Esther has been cremated. Private family graveside will be held later in Faith United Church of Christ Cemetery in Tripoli.
