Description	:	Esther B. Hertel was born on June 30, 1930 on the family homestead in Petersville Township in Kidder County, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Emma (Gruebele) Hertel. She was baptized into the Christian faith on July 12, 1931 and confirmed on August 6, 1944. She received her education at Hornung Country School. She then moved to Jamestown, ND where she worked as a waitress at the Northwest Y and in the kitchen at the Jamestown Hospital. Hertel was born on June 30, 1930 on the family homestead in Petersville Township in Kidder County, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Emma (Gruebele) Hertel. She was baptized into the Christian faith on July 12, 1931 and confirmed on August 6, 1944. She received her education at Hornung Country School. She then moved to Jamestown, ND where she worked as a waitress at the Northwest Y and in the kitchen at the Jamestown Hospital. She was united in marriage to Marvin Bollinger on November 3, 1952 in Jamestown. To this union came three children, Raenette, Kenneth and Tammy. She and Marvin spent the next few years moving around the upper Midwest, while Marvin worked with a telephone construction company. In 1961 they made their home in Brookings, SD. She was a stay at home mom before taking a job with the Brookings School District’s Lunch Program after her children had grown. Marvin passed away in 1983. Esther was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and served on the Altar Guild. She also volunteered with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, especially German dishes. One of her specialties was German Kuchen. She loved spending time with her family, especially dear to her were her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
