In 1927, she welcomed her sister Dorotha Marie. In 1931, her sister, Vera Colleen, was born and died in infancy. Blanche attended Jerome Grade School in Jerome, Iowa. At age 15, she moved with her family to Seymour, Iowa and graduated from Seymour High School in 1941. On September 12, 1942, Blanche married her class mate, Virgil Lloyd Ellis. This union was blessed with one daughter, Connie. Virgil and Blanche lived most of their married life in Wayne County, Iowa, following Virgil’s service in the US Army in Texas. Following Virgil’s discharge, they lived 3 years in Corydon, Iowa. In 1950, they moved to Allerton, Iowa. They owned and operated the Ellis Grocery for several years. Blanche worked for various companies doing bookkeeping and sales work. Blanche accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in mid-life and was baptized at the Allerton Baptist Church, where she was a member for about 40 years. Blanche could not read music, but played the piano and organ by ear, serving her Lord and church for 40 years. She was a great lover of animals, especially cats, and always had one in her home. Blanche was always willing to offer a ride to those who needed it, especially for medical purposes. In 1975, her husband Virgil passed away. On October 15, 1983, Blanche married Edward Horne, of Phoenix, Arizona, a long time friend and business acquaintance. They made their home in Allerton, Iowa. Edward passed away in 1991. In November 2003, Blanche moved from her home of 50 years in Allerton to Casa Grande, Arizona, to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Steve Lucas. Her happiest times were when she could spend time with them. While in Casa Grande, she attended Grace Baptist Church. Blanche claimed the promises in the scriptures. St. John 5:24: Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life. Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved. Blanche was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Ellis and husband Edward Horne, her parents, sisters: Marie Stanton, Vera Colleen, several sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Blanche leaves her daughter Connie and husband Steve of Maricopa, Arizona and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and caregivers. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Thomas Randolph Funeral Home with Doyle Hydorn officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared at www.thomasrandolphfh.com. In lieu of flowers, family has requested memorials be made to Corydon Bible Church for their faithfulness in leading the Sunday evening services at Corydon Specialty Care (Corydon Nursing & Rehab).
