Esther Ligtenberg was born on January 26, 1914 to John and Jennie (DeVries) Bobeldyk in Douglas County, SD. She attended country school in Douglas County. One November 18, 1937, Esther married Henry Ligtenberg in Douglas County. They farmed until 1964 when they bought Smitty's Drive Inn in Armour, SD. The operated Smitty's Drive Inn until 1974. They moved to Corsica, SD in 1986. Henry died on February 3, 1990. Esther was a member of Grace Reformed Church in Corsica. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, and baking. On March 10, 2006 she moved to the Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in Corsica, where she died on September 21, 2008 at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, son-in-law, Lyle Storm, and granddaughter, Wynette.
